Club History

A Brief History of the Club Keighley Golf Club was born from an idea in 1903 at the Annual General Meeting of Keighley Skating Club to utilise the land around Tarn House during the summer months. As a result, seventy people put their names forward and in 1904 a nine-hole course was marked out by Alex Herd on land above Tower House on the heights above Utley. In 1908 the Club moved to its present location renting Howden Park from Lord Hothfield and establishing a nine-hole course which was extended to eighteen in 1909. In 1920 the Club purchased the land from Lord Hothfield for £9,500.

Now confident in its ownership the Club commissioned Mr W H Fowler (Walton Heath, Huddersfield and the famous 18th at Pebble Beach are amongst his designs) to redesign the course with the work being completed between Autumn 1922 and April 1923 giving us the layout we play today.
